Arizona State University & Kyrene School District proudly present the String Project in Kyrene!!
Full Description:
In order to serve the Kyrene community and provide a quality beginning string experience for younger children, the Kyrene School District and the Herberger College at Large & for Kids at ASU have teamed up to offer The ASU String Project in Kyrene. The ASU String Project was founded in 2001. The String Project is part of a national effort to provide children with an opportunity for musical enjoyment and education through the study of stringed instruments, while also encouraging qualified ASU and area High School students to pursue a career in string education and provide them with teaching experience and mentorship opportunities.
The ASU String Project in Kyrene is for beginning students in grades 4-6. String Project Classes meet twice each week for 45 minutes, with a season ending recital at ASU. Classes will meet in two Kyrene locations: Aprende Middle School and Kyrene Middle School. The teachers are Kyrene String Teachers, working with ASU music education students, and supplemented by high school students from Corona del Sol – a truly collaborative project. Students can choose to play violin, viola, cello, or bass. The String Project is under the supervision of Dr. Margaret Schmidt, Assistant Professor of Music Education at ASU, and the String Project founder. Kyrene Master Teachers work with ASU Undergrads and some High School Students to provide this amazing experience to beginner String Students.
Classes will run from September 25-December 6th with a final concert at ASU on Sunday, December 9, 2007. The cost to the participants in the program is $130.00.
A parent informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12th or Thursday, September 13th from 7:00-7:30 pm at ASU’s Gammage Building Room 311.
